What you need to know about tonight!!!
Pals,
There’s a lot going on today, astrologically speaking. We’ve got the eclipse later, a new moon, apparently some sort of meteor shower is due, seven planets in the sky at one time. I’ve got so many IG posts saved for the occasion I am becoming a hot mess - not least because lots of them are telling me different things. Manifest, don’t manifest. It’s a new moon, but not a normal new moon, because, you know… Leo.
I don’t know. I am not well acquainted with Leo. And also, my kid is currently playing a game of throwing his trainer (just one, obvs) over the fence into next doors garden (why?!) so I have no time to get to know Leo. And also, I should journal! I should set some new intentions! I should probably go get my eldest off YouTube. I should lie down on the grass and be grounded. Yes, I’ll do that, that seems easy (FFS now I’m ly
ing in the flight path of the shoe and funnily enough no one on Instagram is talking about a shoe shower).
Maybe I’ll come back to it later. You know when I’m telling the kids to look at the sun (but don’t actually look at the sun) and creating a makeshift eclipse contraption with a piece of paper and a safety pin (answers on a postcard) that most of the fuckers will just chuck away anyway in favour of burning their own eye balls (jokes aside, you really shouldn’t look at the sun, I’m told).
But what if I forget and miss the eclipse altogether? This ‘chance of a lifetime’. I’ll set an alarm. I’ll put it on the reminders list on my phone along with all the other reminders - like the one for my HRT patch that means I don’t end up putting the wrong patch on the wrong day on an almost monthly basis (am I ovulating? does that explain why it feels a bit pro-lapsy down there today? Or was it those star jumps at the gym. Who the fuck knows? Also, tell me you don’t love how they are called ‘star’ jumps - all us adults just bopping around in a room doing our little star shapes - we are so ridiculous and cute).
Yeah, ok, maybe not the ‘reminder’ function. Maybe I’ll message Gazzy and tell him “we need to do the eclipse”. He’ll like that. He loves it when I send him actions that aren’t really actions but more like reminders for me. Especially when they involve the moon. Hopefully he won’t answer and then when we do miss it later I can blame him for not listening to my needs. That sounds pretty aligned with my normal behaviour patterns.
So the eclipse is covered. The shoe throwing less so.
Which is to say, if you are also feeling like you haven’t quite got the headspace for all this jazziness that’s going on in the sky today…I think that’s ok. If you’re reading this post and it’s already been and gone…you didn’t miss anything. And I assume your eyes are nice and intact, so that’s a bonus.
Saying all that, I did actually manage to write a few things down in my notebook this morning when I got up (this isn’t as wholesome as it sounds - I ate cold left-over pizza with my coffee and the kids only slept in past 7am because we’ve let them go feral and sacked off bedtimes).
But in all seriousness, I did write what I felt needed to be written. And sometimes I want to share stuff like this with you but get cold feet. I worry I’ll sound weird, have to edit the hell out of it for fifty hours or make sure it’s completely error free. I don’t have time for that today. And also, maybe I’m getting better at not feeling that need (see conversation below):
I’ve not checked if this is in line with what the experts and astrologists are saying (which I do normally, I’m massively into all that as you know, but….see above! Kirsty Gallagher is still one of my faves for this online - find her here. Other recommends welcome in the comments).
But incase this is for you, read on below:
This solar eclipse is purely a beautiful moment in time. A pause point all of it’s own. Maybe all that is required of us today is to know that. What a day to be alive. What an absolute honour it is to be here. What an opportunity.
This past week my teenage son (who is strongly in his, “push the boundaries” phase) sent me a voice message where he sung a line of a song with the words “i love you” in it. I parked so badly at the garage today (I am actually quite good at parking but I was thinking about how beautiful the day was, I’m not even joking, that was distracting me) and when i returned and sheepishly apologised, the woman who couldn’t get her car past was an absolute joy. Her face was so full of light, and she laughed out loud, I laughed too, we shared some chat, we told each other to have a good day. Imagine being slowed down, your patience tested, and turning that into a connection!!! I’ve had three dreams this week about endings where I’ve woken up in tears, heartbroken and yet, the day, the day, it carries on. All of these things are the point. The stuff worth writing about. We can look back and we can dream forward and both these things are valuable, heart-worthy pursuits. But they are enriched and enabled by us also staying right here in the present moment.
What is there for us to do today? On this day where there is so much potential magic darting around.
Perhaps our only job is to remember. Remember that there is nothing we HAVE to do, only stuff we GET to do. Remember that we are just the current cohort of humans looking up at the sky and asking big questions - there have been so many before us. Remember that we can ask questions, we get to do that; there is no rush, we can’t miss our time, we cannot actually be anything that we are not meant to be.
And remember that there will be SO MANY of us all looking up at the same time tonight. How cool is that? We are not alone. We are so much bigger than ourselves. We are all in this together. Some of us believe in the more woo side of days like this, and some of us simply believe it is a natural phenomenon and to me they are kind of one and the same and it doesn’t matter which. Because whichever way you lean, tonight, millions of us tiny, insignificant, completely lost (if we’re honest) humans will be staring up at the sky, believing in something bigger than ourselves. And of course that changes something. Of course that means something. Of course that is an energetic frequency that is worth noting.
You don’t have to DO much, just FEEL it. Listen. Remember. Allow. You don’t have to have it all figured out, you don’t need to have an hour of calm with a candle and a bunch of crystals (although those things are GORGEOUS), you can just be yourself, here, now, with what you got.
And maybe, just maybe, with all those hearts open up to the skies at one time, thinking, “this is amazing” and “isn’t life crazily beautiful” maybe, just maybe, that turns into, “this planet is worth saving.”
The journal prompts I used this morning:
Ha, after all that said, I’m a walking contradiction, these were my jump off points:
What is inside of you that has always been alive but you’ve ignored or spent years trying to deny? (Not necc a decision or action, but rather a knowing).
Tell me about this beautiful life of yours???
What do you need to remember?
Finally, I’ve leave you with this beaut of a poem by Gayle Brandeis, because you know I like to always drop a poem into proceedings.

Ok, I’m off to knock on our neighbours door and ask for two trainers and fifteen footballs, wish me luck,
Nelly xx

OMG that plum poem made me forget what I wanted to say. Lol. All I wanted to say actually is that you're doing it right. Eclipses are a chaotic time and it seems like things may be a little chaotic for you. And also you have kids so you know Leo. Leo is the child of the zodiac. And they sound pretty chaotic so yeah you're doing it right.
An interesting fact is that some indigenous folks actually say to stay inside during an eclipse, since the energy is intense and was a frightening time for our ancestors. They also say that they don't mind if people want to look, they let people do whatever they want to do. I think that's the real message of today: do whatever you want to do. Not because someone told you to do it but because you want to do it.
Thank you for this. I was starting to feel overloaded by eclipse mania yesterday and decided to stay off social media until it had passed. It's easy to get caught up in the worry of whether you are doing something right or not and forget to just have a human experience of it.
