I am a little late with my Spring journaling. I think it might be because this month has felt so flaming dank. It’s hard to imagine that this time three years ago we were slathering on the sun cream.
The rain may be persisting but the birds are undoubtedly calling us to listen. The colour of the sunlight that is landing on my kitchen table as I write this is sharper, not yet harsh and hot but it certainly has more intent.
And this is what I am channeling.
I’ve had a strange urge to sketch trees and leaves (they never look anywhere near as good as they do in my head, ha). I’ve done lots of free-writing and used pencil crayons to shade words or phrases that are standing out for me and written a list of house/garden jobs that I have a sudden urge to begin. Just writing the list itself feels like I’m sipping a large iced tea.
Here are some writing prompts I’ve been playing with. If you are feeling charmed by the lighter nights and wanting to start…something, then they might be helpful.
Can you tap into the provocation of Spring, the way that it invites us to begin to widen our shoulders once again and stretch out our bodies and our minds. The gentle nudges that we are receiving.
What is it that you are wanting to open up to right now? Where do you feel a gentle shift happening? What green shoots do you want to nurture?
Imagining that you are fully awake now after a long hibernation, opening your eyes and considering whereabouts you are for a moment. Noticing where you might still be feeling a little crumpled and stiff. Where might you benefit from a cold shower? Do you feel a desire to remake your bed? Smooth out any sheets. Pick up a throw which has fallen onto the floor. Perhaps sort the bedside table which has gradually become overwhelmed. Open up the window and pause to breathe in the breeze.
Which areas of your life would benefit from a Spring clean? You could write freely or begin a list..
Are there any Spring mantras or words of wisdom that you want to write? Can you capture a feeling you desire for this season? This month in my journal I wrote the line, “have faith - when I set my mind to something I am unstoppable”. I haven’t written anything that pro-active for a good while. But likewise this could be the chance to write yourself a reminder that you are exactly where you need to be. That growth doesn’t come overnight. A chance to show yourself some kindness.
What is it that you need to hear? What is it that you want to tell you beautiful self?
And then a few speedier, more open-ended journal prompts:
- This Spring bring me more…
- The best thing about a Spring day is…
- I want to grow…
- I want to awaken…
- I am excited about…
- Right now I am feeling…
- I am being called to…
- I trust that I will…
- Nature teaches me that…
- I find that Spring…
And finally, a Spring poem. Because, well, just because.
I’ve got some exciting new ideas for this newsletter which I’ll tell you about shortly. In the meantime, have a great week,
